Easy Scrabble Game Adaptation
Fun for the Whole Family
You will need:
Set of Scrabble letters (*see below for notes about the official game board).
Pad or whiteboard to keep track of the score.
Page from a familiar story, vocabulary words, spelling word list, sight word flashcards.
How to Play for 2-4 players
1. Select your word list or book - these are the only words players can choose for this round.
2. Select a time limit for the game or a point limit to be achieved.
3. Place letters face up. All of the letters are available to each player on their turn.
5. The youngest player goes first.
Encourage players to place letters IN ORDER left to right.
Players should read the sentence from the book with their word in it (as appropriate) or say a sentence using their word.
Players add up the numbers on their tiles for their score
6. Next player selects a word that shares one letter with the starter word. Words can be placed left to right or top-down only. Any letters that touch must make a word.
The game is over when the time is up, or when one player reaches the pre-set score.
When it isn’t your turn:
Scan the list for your next word.
Scan the words already made for a place to put your next word.
Watch/check/assist the other players to be sure they are spelling and adding scores correctly.
*For an advanced Math component to Easy Scrabble – play the game as described above using the official game board as the base. This will require the use of multiplication for increasing letter or word scores.
Scrabble letters can be purchased at AMAZON.ca for approximately $11 without the board game. Use the letter chart at the top of the page to make a set of your own letters.
